Op naar de markt!
Aanstaande zondag 30 juni neem ik deel aan wat mijn eerste markt zal zijn:
Vintage aan de Maas

Wat ga ik verkopen, vraag je? De bram x bailey – krootjes tassen en mijn Pin that book! geborduurde boeken.

De bigshoppers, rugzakken en bumbags van de serie krootjes zijn gemaakt van de Koningsdagvlaggen 2023. Geportretteerde Rotterdammers wapperden vrolijk langs de Boompjeskade. De overbleven niet-opgehaalde vlaggen kreeg ik gedoneerd van Stichting Vlaggenparade. Zo ontstond de tassenlijn bram x bailey met als eerste serie krootjes.
De bumbags zijn onder andere geborduurd met de zoete kers, steenbreekvaren en zwanenbloem. Deze 3 staan op de ‘10 van 010’-biodiversiteitslijst.

Sinds kort borduur ik voorkanten van boeken die ik vind in Leeszaal West (alternatieve bieb in Rotterdam), mini-bieb-kastjes en soms ook krijg. Deze leg ik weg op allerlei plekken als een vorm van wat ik noem ‘guerilla-kunst’.
Tijdens scrollen zag ik een post van iemand die de voorkant van een boek borduurde. Spontaan haalde ik 3 boeken die mij aanspraken bij de Leeszaal en borduurde als eerste bloemetjes op een boek van Adriaan van Dis. Stiekem legde ik deze geborduurde boeken daar een paar dagen later terug en maakte er een post van. Naar aanleiding van een opmerking van Marlies Verda had ik ineens een naam en Instagram-account. Voilà, project geboren!

Ook een soort markt… Vanaf maandag 1 juli aanstaande zullen bram x bailey en Pin that book! te koop zijn via Etsy.com. Je kunt het vinden onder de naam TheLadyMerel.

The bigshoppers, backpack and embroidered bumbags are made from the King’s Day flags 2023. Photos of Rotterdammers were happily waving at the Boompjeskade. The leftover not-collected flags were donated to me by the Vlaggenparade Foundation. That’s how bram x bailey came to be with the first series krootjes.
The bumbags are embroidered with the wild cherry, saxifrage fern and flowering rush. These 3 are on the ‘10 of 010’ biodiversity list.

Recently I started embroidering literal book covers of books I find in Leeszaal West (alternative library in Rotterdam), mini-library-cabinets and sometimes they are donated too. I drop them at various places as what I call ‘guerilla art’.
While scrolling I saw a post from someone who was embroidering a book. Spontaneously I went to get 3 books which resonated with me, at the Leeszaal and I embroidered flowers on a book by Adriaan van Dis. A couple of days later I left them secretly there and made a post about it. Due to a comment by Marlies Verda all of a sudden I had a name and Instagram account. Voilà, project born!

Also a market, so to speak… As of Monday July 1 bram x bailey en Pin that book! will be for sale at Etsy.com. You will find it under the name TheLadyMerel.
